Weather
The weather at DMC changes quickly and can vary to extremes. The sun is a higher intensity; gusty winds are frequent. Summers are generally cool, with average highs in the 70s, occasionally reaching the 80s. In any given season one may experience mild temperatures and bright sunshine, or cold temperatures and snow.

windproof jacket
sturdy shoes, with good traction and stability for walking on trails and uneven ground
chapstick, sun screen and sun hat
water bottle
waist or day pack
flashlight and batteries
slippers (slippers may be worn in the shrine room)
Altitude and Hydration
The elevation of Drala Mountain Center is 8,000 feet. If you live at a low elevation, there are steps you can take to ease your transition and help you adapt to this lower-oxygen environment:
1. Drink twice as much water. One of the best ways to help your body adjust to high altitude is to drink more water. High-altitude areas have low humidity which keeps the air dry, so you should drink twice as much water as you’re used to. Personal water bottles are allowed in the meditation hall as long as they are spill-proof.
2. Acclimate before heading up Adjusting to a higher altitude can take a day or two, so you may find it helpful to spend a night or two at an intermediate altitude, such as Boulder or Denver or Ft. Collins. This will give your body time to adapt to a lower level of oxygen and pressure.
3. Supplements may be helpful. Some participants have benefitted from an herbal product called ChlorOxygen: “It helps increase the body’s oxygenation. Taken for a week or so before coming to elevation, as well as during one’s stay, it can make a big difference.” (Available at Whole Foods and Amazon.com)
4. Remember to bring a hat and sunscreen! The sun can be significantly more intense at higher altitudes.

Retreat Schedule
The retreat schedule will be posted in the foyer of the Sacred Studies Hall. An early version of the retreat schedule can be found HERE. (NOTE: This schedule is subject to change!)
Pre-retreat “conversations”
You are warmly invited to participate in four one-hour Zoom meetings that will take place in the weeks leading up to retreat. These informal gatherings are an opportunity to get to know one another before retreat, and to assist in the exploration of the material in the retreat sourcebook. The Zoom meetings will be held on the following Thursdays from 5:00-6:00pm MT: August 27th, September 3rd, September 10th, and September 17th. More information to come.
Volunteering
As many of you know, the Profound Treasury retreats are renowned for cultivating a spirit of cheerful volunteerism among our participants: together, we co-create the mandala that makes these retreats so special. There will be many opportunities to volunteer at retreat, including daily kitchen rota to help the DMC kitchen staff. Details of all the volunteer opportunities will be posted at retreat.
The Morning Class
The five morning classes will take place at 11:15am in the Sacred Studies Hall. These classes will focus on the six primary paramitas— generosity, discipline, patience, exertion, meditation, and wisdom—and how we can apply them to our lives and to our meditation practice
Afternoon Workshops
The five afternoon workshops will take place at 2:00pm, and will focus on working with the paramitas in our daily lives.
The banquet
A favorite tradition at Profound Treasury Retreats is the banquet on the evening of the last day (Saturday) of retreat. Everyone is welcome (but not required) to dress up a bit for the evening. We’ll begin with a flag lowering ceremony at 4:45, followed by a social hour from 5:00-6:00. A sit-down banquet from 6:00-7:00. At 7:00 is our “No-Talent Show,” where everyone is invited and encouraged to share songs, poetry, and skits for all to enjoy. Once the No-Talent show is over, the floor is cleared for music and dancing. Feel free to bring your favorite dance tunes; we will have technology to play those songs from phones.
