Resources for Small Groups

Joining a small group is a wonderful way to stay connected between Profound Treasury retreats. There are currently a number of very active small groups organized around a wide variety of interests, including (but not limited to) book clubs, discussion groups, study groups, and practice groups. While some groups meet in person, many groups now meet over Zoom.

If you would like to JOIN a small group, please scroll down to the bottom of the page to view a list of small groups that are currently active.

If you would like to HOST a small group, some helpful information and resources can be found below. (If you have already started a group and would like to invite others to join, click the link at the very bottom of this page to add your group to our list.)

Things to consider when hosting a small group

• frequency – meet every week? every two weeks? once a month?
• areas of interest – dharma study? practice? both?  •  Buddhist teachings? Shambhala teachings? both?
• read? listen to podcasts and recordings? watch videos?
• are there prerequisites?

In-person groups
The logistics are quite simple: finding a meeting place, settling on a time and day to meet, and exchanging phone numbers/email addresses.

Zoom groups
Meeting via Zoom means that even people who live far away from each other can participate in real time. If you already have a Zoom account, you’re set. If you don’t have a Zoom account, you can sign up for a free account here. However, there is a 40 minute limit to meetings with a free account. A paid Zoom account costs about $150 per year; there is no time limit to meetings, and it includes 5 gigs of storage for recording meetings. (Many small groups share the yearly cost of the Zoom account.) Click here for more information.

Watch the Zoom recording
On April 5th, 2023, a group of people who are currently hosting small groups met on Zoom to share their experiences, providing a glimpse into the wide variety of styles and approaches that are possible with small group gatherings. To watch the recording of the Zoom meeting, click here.
