Entering the Path
The Hinayana Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
Taught by Judith L. Lief
The hinayana path is the foundation of the Buddhist teachings. To enter the path of Buddhist practice, one must start here. Based on training in mindfulness and awareness and in cultivating a deeper understanding of one’s own mind, the hinayana is what allows us to take delight in our everyday life just as it is.
The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion
The Mahayana Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
Taught by Judith L. Lief
Once the essential foundation of the hinayana teachings has been laid, the next step begins with opening the focus of practice to include the world beyond oneself. This personal paradigm shift is the gate to the mahayana teachings, beginning with shunyata, the essential emptiness of all phenomena, and with the compassion that naturally arises from that understanding.
Glimpses of Vajrayana
The Tantric Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
Taught by Judith L. Lief
The tantric path requires complete engagement and fierce dedication. There is a quality of directness, abruptness, and wholeheartedness to it, and it is said to be the more rapid but more dangerous path.
Glimpses of Mahamudra
The Tantric Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
Taught by Judith L. Lief
Mahamudra is a meditation tradition within tantric Buddhism that points to the nature of awareness itself, elevating our ordinary perception to the level of the sacred. In this view, all experiences arise from a mind that is naturally vast, empty, and luminous.
The Mandala Principle
Chögyam Trungpa’s Teachings on Transforming Confusion into Wisdom
Taught by Judith L. Lief
So much of our sense of struggle in life stems from the delusion that we live in a world of binaries: good and bad, happy and sad, clear and obscure. But what if we could view these oppositions, with all the tension they carry, as the keys to enlightenment? According to the mandala principle of tantric Buddhism, we can put dualities to use by seeing that they are not actually contradictions of each other. Instead, they are interrelated and reflect a single totality in which everything in the cosmos is included and nothing is left out. Through this all-encompassing quality of the mandala, we can discover how to transmute confusion into wisdom and struggle into liberation.
